Learning the Ropes

All levels of yoga experience are welcome. This workshop is not appropriate for someone who has never done yoga. Expect an experience of dynamic learning. Class size limited to 7 participants. If our waitlist exceeds 7 we will add another Learning the Ropes workshop on Sunday Nov. 17th, 2pm. To receive credit to your Momence account, cancellations must be received 12 hours in advance of class start time.

Curious about the ropes hanging in our studio? Join Athena and learn how to use them to create freedom in the body. Known as Yoga Karunta, ropes are an innovative feature of Iyengar Yoga and typify the brilliance of its creator B.K.S. Iyengar.

By using the ropes, the practitioner changes their relationship to gravity and can use their own body weight to create space in the body. The ropes allow for motion which helps to reduce stiffness. By utilizing ropes muscular effort is reduced making it possible to stay in the asana for a longer period of time. The ropes create expansiveness and stability in the body that in turn facilitates a sense of calm in the mind.
